Trump threatens tariffs against BRICS because he feels it undermines US interests: Spokesperson
New York: President Donald Trump has threatened an additional ten per cent tariff on countries associated with BRICS because he feels that the group is “seeking to undermine” US interests, according to his Spokesperson Karoline Leavitt..Asked on Monday what specific policies Trump was referring to when he announced the tariffs threat on Truth Social, she said, “The President feels, generally speaking, that BRICS is seeking to undermine the interests of the United States”..“He”s closely monitoring it, which is why he put out a statement himself”, she said..Trump posted on the social media late Sunday night, “Any Country aligning themselves with the Anti-American policies of BRICS, will be charged an additional 10 per cent tariff.”.He did not specify the policies that he considered “Anti-American”..BRICS MeetingThe threat came within hours of BRICS leaders’ joint declaration that they “voice serious concerns about the rise of unilateral tariff and non-tariff measures which distort trade and are inconsistent with WTO [World Trade Organisation] rules”..The statement did not name the US and also took aim at the European Union and other Western countries that practice “protectionism under the guise of environmental objectives”, which Trump also opposes..Another criticism directed against Washington was condemning the military strikes against Iran, also without naming the US..Earlier, he had warned BRICS against trying to create its own currency to replace the dollar for trade..India: No policy to replace dollarBut that currency proposal was shot down by India, with External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar saying there was no policy to replace the dollar as the reserve currency because it “is the source of international economic stability”..Asked if he was threatening action against BRICS because it was getting stronger, Leavitt said, “He does not perceive these countries as growing stronger. He just perceives them as trying to undermine the United States interests. And that”s not okay with him, no matter how strong or weak a country may be.”.The letter he sent on Monday to South Africa about imposing higher tariffs did not mention any special penalty for BRICS membership, and only said a 30 per tariff would come into effect from August 1 unless an agreement is reached..25% tariff for MalaysiaFor BRICS partner Malaysia, he said he will impose a 25 per cent tariff from August 1 and made no mention of the proposed BRICS penalty..In addition to Japan and Korea, for whom he also imposed 25 per cent tariffs, Leavitt said 12 more countries will get letters on Monday about tariffs..India was not among the five whose letters were posted on Truth Social as of Monday afternoon, but seven more were to come..Negotiations were taking place with all these countries and these letters, in effect, extend Wednesday’s deadline for a final agreement to August 1..“This delay again is in the best interest of the American people,” Leavitt said..“The President”s phone, I can tell you, rings off the hook from world leaders all the time who are begging him to come to a deal, and this administration is working hard to ensure those deals are in the best interest of the American People,” she added.

الصهيونية الدينية.. وخطر الاستيطان
الخير ليس خيراً في جوهره، بل في ممارساته الأخلاقية، كما قد يكون هناك خير في بعض الشر لا يستطيع البشر إدراكه، وإذا ما أردنا فهم الخير والشر في الصهيونية الدينية والتيار الديني القومي في السياسة الإسرائيلية، فسنجد بين الشر والخير برزخ لا يلتقيان أبداً. وأرى النخبوية في تفسير وفهم الدين الحصري في كل الثقافات سلاحاً فتاكاً بيد قلة بيدها تبرير ممارسات غير أخلاقية، وتحاول عبثاً أن تنسبها للرب، بل وتحول التعليم الديني إلى مصانع أيديولوجية.فمن النص إلى الاستراتيجية لم تكن النصوص المقدسة مجرد خلفية رمزية، بل شكلت حجر الأساس في العقيدة الصهيونية. ففي سفر التكوين 15:18 «لنسلك أعطي هذه الأرض، من نهر مصر إلى النهر الكبير، نهر الفرات»، هذه الجملة تقرأ اليوم في السياق الصهيوني على أنها خريطة جغرافية مقدسة يجب تحقيقها. وأما سفر يشوع وسفر العدد فيدعوان إلى طرد «الكنعانيين» وغيرهم من الشعوب القديمة، مع وعد إلهي بتحقيق النصر في حال الالتزام بالتكليف الرباني. وبدوره يأتي التلمود البابلي ليعزز هذا الخطاب من خلال تقسيم الناس إلى «يهود» و«أمم» (غوييم)، والتقسيم إلى بشر وغير بشر. وأموال الآخرين لا مالك لها.. ونصوص كثيرة. وعصرنة النصوص لا تمنحنا الحق في تأصيل فهمنا وجعله مرادفاً لها. ولكن في الوقت نفسه تعد تشريعات وحجة غائبة تم استدعاؤها خارج النص التاريخي لتستغل بصورة خاطئة، وتسمح أحياناً بأخذ ممتلكات غير اليهود، بل وحتى إلحاق الأذى بهم، إن تعارض وجودهم مع مصلحة الشعب المختار.لم تكن الصهيونية الدينية تياراً هامشياً، بل كانت دوماً القلب النابض للاستيطان في الأراضي المحتلة، هذا التيار الذي يرى في قيام دولة إسرائيل الخطوة الأولى نحو الخلاص الإلهي، لا يعتبر الاستيطان خياراً سياسياً، بل واجب ديني على غرار حركة «غوش إيمونيم»، التي تأسست عام 1974، وشكلت نقطة الانطلاق للاستيطان العقائدي في الضفة الغربية. أما الأحزاب السياسية مثل الصهيونية الدينية وشاس والبيت اليهودي، فقد نجحت في تحويل هذه العقيدة إلى قوانين وسياسات تطبقها الدولة، وفتاوى الإقصاء والتكفير ليس لها أول ولا آخر. ففي عام 2001 صرّح الحاخام عوفاديا يوسف بأن «العرب خلقوا لخدمة اليهود»، هذا التصريح لم يقابل بالإدانة الرسمية، بل حظي بدعم من تيارات حريدية نافذة. وتصريحات الحاخامات مثل دوف ليئور وإسحاق غينسبورغ تسير في الاتجاه ذاته وتبشر بمفاهيم «الطهر العرقي»، وتحرّض على هدم المساجد وطرد العرب باسم «القداسة». وأما في عام 2009 فقد صدر كتاب «توراة الملك»، الذي يجيز قتل غير اليهود، حتى الأطفال، إذا اعتبروا تهديداً محتملاً. هذا الكتاب لا يزال متداولاً ويدرّس في بعض مدارس المستوطنين، ولم نسمع الغرب يحتج أو يدين أو يطالب بإيقاف ذلك، وصنفوا التحريض على أنه حرية فكر في تناقض صارخ ومشين، وبالتالي كل الجهود لتحقيق السلام لا معنى لها، طالما أن جذور المشكلة لا تعتبر مشكلة في الطرفين.لا يتوقف الأمر عند ذلك، ويعتقد البعض أن المؤسسات التي تنشر العنصرية والمفاهيم الإقصائية من صميم مؤسسات الدولة، ففي عام 2024 أكثر من 750 ألف مستوطن في الضفة الغربية، 60% منهم ينتمون إلى تيارات صهيونية دينية، وبالتالي إن تداخل الدين بالسياسة في إسرائيل فقد ينظر له على أنه نظام فصل عنصري، يجد في نصوصه المقدسة مبرراً دائماً للتوسع والإقصاء وشرعنه القتل للمدنيين، فكيف ينجح أي حل سياسي ما لم يفكك هذا الإطار العقائدي؟ ومن يحول احتلال الأرض إلى عبادة، وطرد الإنسان إلى طهارة، وتدمير التاريخ إلى قداسة، فإن المواجهة معه تكون حضارية ومعرفية في المقام الأول، ويكمن التحدي الأكبر في إعادة تعريف العلاقة بين الدين، والحق، والإنسان. *كاتب وباحث إماراتي في شؤون التعايش السلمي وحوار الثقافات
