Abu Dhabi rolls out public cleaning services to enhance city cleanliness
Abu Dhabi: The Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT) in Abu Dhabi has launched a wide-reaching public cleaning initiative aimed at improving the city’s cleanliness and operational efficiency. The initiative is part of the Emirate’s broader vision to maintain its status as a global hub prioritising environmental sustainability and quality of life. The first phase of the project involves deploying over 600 specialised vehicles and 2,800 staff members to cover essential areas such as internal and external roads, government buildings, markets, bridges, tunnels, beaches, islands, and more. The plan also includes support for special events and the removal of waste from open areas, ensuring that Abu Dhabi remains pristine and welcoming for residents, workers, and visitors alike.A commitment to cleanliness Dr Saif Sultan Al Nasseri, Acting Undersecretary of DMT, said that the initiative reflects the department’s dedication to upholding high cleanliness standards across the Emirate. “Our goal is to not only enhance the city’s aesthetic appeal but also improve the overall quality of life for all who live and work here,” he stated. The program aligns with Abu Dhabi’s long-term vision of becoming a top global destination that prioritises the well-being of its community while promoting environmental responsibility.Environmental focusDuring the launch event, two major strategic agreements were signed. One partnership with ADNOC Distribution will provide fuel for the cleaning vehicles through ADNOC’s “My Station” service trucks, including the supply of “ADNOC Blue” — a sustainable fuel designed to reduce emissions and promote environmental sustainability.Another agreement with Sadeira (formerly Kizad Communities) will ensure the provision of high-quality housing and services for cleaning personnel, following international best practices.Construction sitesCoinciding with National Environment Day, Abu Dhabi Municipality also launched a special cleanup campaign aimed at improving cleanliness at new construction sites throughout the city. The initiative engages construction firms and on-site workers, raising awareness about the importance of maintaining clean, safe, and environmentally friendly worksites. The campaign encourages construction professionals to adopt eco-friendly practices and responsibly manage waste and pollutants.Municipal inspectors are actively involved, guiding site workers to ensure safe disposal of construction waste and to minimise potential hazards that could threaten public health and safety.
