Arab Book Award Opens Nominations for Third Edition

Doha, February 23 (QNA) – The Arab Book Award has announced the opening of nominations for its third edition, starting Sunday via the award”s official website, and until May 23rd.

The Arab Book Award, based in Doha, is an annual award launched by Qatar, aimed at honoring researchers, publishers, and institutions contributing to the Arab book industry.

The award seeks to enrich the Arab library by encouraging individuals and institutions to present their best knowledge productions in social and human sciences. It also aims to recognize serious studies and introduce them, as well as support leading publishing houses to enhance the quality of the Arab book in both form and content.

The announcement of the opening of nominations was made on Sunday evening during a press conference held by the award”s administration at the Qatar Press Center. The event was attended by Dr. Abdul Wahid Al Alami, Academic Director of the Arab Book Award, and Dr. Al Siddiq Omar, Advisor to the Award, along with officials from the Qatar Press Center and a selection of media professionals and intellectuals.

In his speech, Dr. Al Siddiq Omar stated that the award is steadily advancing. Despite its recent inception, it has received outstanding contributions over the past two editions from academics both within Qatar and beyond. He pointed out that the award aims to gain greater recognition and expand within the Arab world, being present in various Arab cultural forums, appreciating the successes achieved so far.

Dr. Abdul Wahid Al Alami explained that this year”s award will include several categories, which are: literary and critical studies of Arab heritage up to the end of the 10th century AH, social and philosophical studies, with this edition dedicated to intellectual and economic studies, historical studies, with this edition focusing on Arab and Islamic history from the end of the 6th century AH to the end of the 12th century, Sharia sciences and Islamic studies, with this edition focusing on the biography of the Prophet and Hadith studies, after the previous edition was dedicated to the principles of Islamic jurisprudence, and lexicons, encyclopedias, and text authentication, with this edition focusing on the authentication of linguistic texts.

Al Alami noted that the award includes two categories: the single book category and the achievement category, in which works can be nominated in either category, provided that the work belongs to one of the scientific specializations specified by the award this year. (QNA)
