Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus – Ethiopian politician, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia (2012-2016). Since 2017 – Director General of the World Health Organization (World Health Organization).
Place of Birth. Education. Born March 3, 1965 v Asmare in Ethiopia in the family of an engineer. Graduated from Asmara University in 1986 with a degree in Biology.
After the fall of the military regime of Mengistu Haile Mariama in 1991, he was able to continue his education abroad. In 1992, he graduated from the University of London with a Master”s Degree in Immunology of Infectious Diseases. In 2000, he received his doctorate from the University of Nottingham (UK) with a degree in community health. Passed additional educational courses in Denmark and Sweden.
Career. After graduating from universitywent to work as a laboratory assistant in the Ethiopian Ministry of Health.
In 2001-2003 Headed the health department of the Tigray region. In 2003, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Health of Ethiopia.
In 2005-2012 Ethiopian Minister of Health. In this position, he reformed the country”s healthcare system in order to increase the availability of medical care.
In 2012-2016 Ethiopian Foreign Minister. In this position, he helped develop a number of regional initiatives in the field of health and development assistance. In 2013, he chaired the Executive Council of the African Union (AU) and initiated the preparation of Agenda 2063, a strategic document aimed at accelerating the economic, political and social development of Africa. In 2015, he participated in the International Conference on Financing for Development in Addis Ababa, where he helped to overcome differences and develop consensus on the adoption of the Sustainable Development Action Plan.
He was Vice-Chair of the 60th World Health Assembly (2007; the governing body of the World Health Organization – WHO), Chairman of the 56th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Africa (2007), served on the board of the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization (2008-2009) ), chaired AIDS Watch Africa (2013).
In 2012-2014 served on the Harvard University Advisory Board on Ministerial Leadership in the Health Program. He was a member of the Council of Global Leaders in Reproductive Health of the Aspen Institute (USA), the advisory board of the University of Addis Ababa (Ethiopia).
In 2016-2017 Special Advisor to the Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
Since 2017 – Director General of WHO.
Scientific specialization. He is a specialist in the study of malaria. He acted as a co-author of numerous publications in a number of international scientific publications (“Tropical Medicine and Parasitology”, “The Lancet”, “Nature”, “Parasitology”).
Criticism. As the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia, he was accused by the expert community of covering up outbreaks of several cases of cholera in Ethiopia in 2006, 2009 and 2011.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Tedros was criticized by the public for being slow to act on the epidemic and for being too close to the Chinese government (where the pandemic originated).
Awards. In 2016, he was awarded the Order of the Serbian Flag.
He became the first non-American to receive the Humanitarian Prize. Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter (USA, 2001).
In 2016, he received an award from the international non-governmental organization Women Deliver “for hard work” in recognition of his contribution to women”s health.
In 2012 he was elected an honorary member of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.
Family. Tedros is married and has five children.

Ankara”dan Antalya Büyükşehir Belediyesi Şehirlerarası Otobüs Terminali”ne 26 Aralık 2024 tarihinde gelen bir kolide bulunan, 3 aylık olduğu değerlendirilen “Rhesus” türü dişi yavru maymun, veteriner kontrolünden geçirildikten sonra Antalya Büyükşehir Belediyesi Doğal Yaşam Parkı”na teslim edilerek karantinaya alındı. “Fıstık” adı verilen yavru maymun, karantina sürecinde kendisine özel hazırlanan bir alanda tutuluyor. SAĞLIĞI SIKI TAKİPTEVeteriner ekipler tarafından sürekli kontrol edilen Fıstık, sebze, kuruyemiş ve yumurtadan oluşan özel bir diyetle besleniyor. Fiziksel gelişimini desteklemek amacıyla yerleştirilen ipli merdivenler ve kütüklerden oluşan küçük parkurlardan oluşan alanda karantina sürecine devam eden Fıstık, ziyaretçiler tarafından uzaktan gözlemlenebiliyor. Doğal Yaşam Parkı”na getirildiğinde 1 kilo 890 gram olan Fıstık, şu an 2 kilo 100 gram ağırlığa ulaştı. Fıstık”ın bakımı, sağlık kontrolleri ve tedavisi ise düzenli yapılıyor. Doğal Yaşam Parkı yetkilileri, Antalya”nın iklimi ve özel bakımı sayesinde yavru maymunun sağlığının her geçen gün daha iyiye gittiğini aktardı. ‘STRES ALTINTAYDI VE AÇ KALMIŞTI’Fıstık yemeyi çok sevdiği için yavru maymuna “Fıstık” adını verdiklerini ifade eden Doğal Yaşam Parkı Müdürü Aygül Arsun, “Fıstık otogarda yakalanıp Doğal Yaşam Parkımıza geldiğinde çok korkmuştu. Stres altındaydı ve aç kalmıştı. Bu süreç boyunca geçen günlerde onun daha keyifli ve neşeli olduğunu izledik. Antalya”nın havası, iklimi ona iyi geldi dedi. Bulunduğu alana çeşitli aktiviteler yapabilmesi için oyun parkuru, ipli merdivenler ve oyuncaklar yerleştirdiklerini aktaran Arsun, “Bulunduğu alanda mutlu ve kendisinin daha neşeli olduğunu izliyoruz.
