“Global Economy Insights – Iran’s Initiative for Neighboring Port Cooperation”

Iran offers to host independent port offices for neighbors

Seyyed Abdolrasoul Mohajer Hejazi, an official at Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said Sunday during the inauguration of the final phase of the Tehran-Aprin Dry Port Terminal that the Islamic Republic of Iran is ready to offer facilities in Bandar Abbas to help neighboring countries set up independent port organizations.

Highlighting Iran”s transit capacities, Hejazi emphasized Iran’s potential role as a logistics hub connecting regional nations.

He explained that several northern neighbors lacking access to open seas, including Central Asian countries, Russia, Belarus, as well as Caucasus nations like Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia, along with Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan, can now access Bandar Abbas via Iranian transportation networks.

He added that the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development, led by Minister Farzaneh Sadegh, is fully prepared to offer the necessary support to these countries in Bandar Abbas.

Hejazi noted that the United Arab Emirates can also take advantage of Iran’s safe, close, and efficient routes to access Central Asia.

He also shared positive news that the Chabahar-Zahedan railway will be completed and operational by the end of this year, marking a key milestone in Iran’s transport infrastructure.

He further stated that a major Chinese freight train was moved to the project site to represent the start of operational logistics, highlighting the shift from promises to action.

Hejazi concluded by stating that this development is a positive move under President Masoud Pezeshkian’s administration, showing a serious push for strengthening regional ties and Iran’s transit infrastructure.
