President of Russia”s Chamber of Commerce and Industry to QNA: HH the Amir”s Visit an Important Step in Developing Bilateral Dialogue, Strengthening Economic Partnership

Moscow, April 17 (QNA) – President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russian Federation Sergey Katyrin stressed that the official visit of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani to the Russian Federation represents an important step in the development of bilateral dialogue and strengthening economic partnership, especially amid global economic and geopolitical changes.

In an exclusive interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA), Katyrin said that HH the Amir”s visit and the talks he will hold with HE President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin represent a strong impetus to consolidate the partnership between the two countries and reflect their commitment to deepening political and economic cooperation.

Katyrin added that the visit sends a clear message to private businesses in Russia and Qatar, giving them the green light to intensify bilateral cooperation, including joint projects and mutual investments, with clear political support for this trend. It will also be a catalyst for concluding new contracts, attracting investments, and establishing sustainable cooperation mechanisms between the two countries, especially with regard to mutual financial settlements. He expressed his confidence that the next five years will witness the actual realization of the latent potential in trade exchange and the expansion of the scope of bilateral projects, particularly in the fields of innovation, sustainable development, the digital economy, education, and scientific research.

President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation said that despite the limited volume of trade between Russia and Qatar in absolute terms, there are strong opportunities for growth, even in light of the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and international sanctions. He noted the growing interest in cooperation in the fields of energy, construction, agriculture, and advanced technology.

He also noted the role played by the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in facilitating information exchange, organizing trade delegation visits, and building direct relationships between business leaders in both countries, thus enhancing the chances of concluding new deals. He also noted that Qatar possesses promising potential to become a logistical and financial hub for Russian companies seeking to enter the markets of the Arabian Gulf and North Africa.

President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russian Federation highlighted promising sectors for cooperation between Russia and Qatar, most notably energy, including gas and renewable sources, agriculture and food security, Islamic banking and financial technology, tourism, education, and transportation and logistics.

Regarding joint projects, Katyrin confirmed the existence of projects, most notably Qatar Investment Authority”s participation in the Russian energy sector, in addition to agricultural and construction initiatives in Russia with the participation of Qatari capital, as well as growing interest from Qatari investors in Russian technology and information technology startups.

The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russian Federation serves as a key platform for economic dialogue, as it regularly organizes forums, exhibitions, and bilateral meetings that bring together businessmen from both sides. The Chamber currently comprises more than 54,000 companies, in addition to associations and federations at the federal and regional levels. It works to enhance communication between Russian businessmen and their foreign counterparts, in addition to supervising 76 joint business councils with various countries, he added.

In a related context, Katyrin added that the Russian-Qatari Business Council, established in 2007, is actively involved in organizing regular meetings, economic forums, and trade events, leveraging platforms such as the Joint Russian-Qatari Committee for Cooperation, and the resources of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation.

At the conclusion of his interview with QNA, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Russian Federation Sergey Katyrin stressed the importance of forums and exhibitions as a means of enhancing communication between investors, pointing to major events organized in Russia such as the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, INNOPROM, KazanForum, and Russian Energy Week, in addition to major exhibitions such as PRODEXPO and Neftegaz. He expressed his welcome to the participation of Qatari delegations in these events, and also called on Russian companies to attend economic events held in Doha. (QNA)
