“International Conflicts Update – Escalating Tensions in Gaza, Yemen, and Lebanon”

US fighter jet survived weekend missile attack over Red Sea

FA-18 Hornet fighter jet was hit with a missile on the night the first American fighter jet was shot, but the pilots were able to survive the attack with difficulty and by performing maneuvers, the Fox News reported but claimed that the missiles were fired from the guided-missile cruiser Gettysburg, which was tasked with escorting the aircraft carrier, USS Harry S. Truman.

According to the report, the US Navy pilots were extremely angry after the incident despite US Central Command (CENTCOM) statement attributing the incident to friendly fire over the Red Sea.

In the statement, CENTCOM emphasized that it is investigating how the guided-missile cruiser made the mistake.

The downing of the warplane followed an airstrike on the Yemeni capital Sana’a on Saturday night that prompted retaliatory strikes by the Yemeni army.

So far, no report has been published on the targets bombed and the extent of the damage and possible casualties.

The next day, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, spokesman for the Yemeni armed forces, announced that the army successfully targeted the American aircraft carrier and a number of destroyers simultaneously with the attacks on Sana’a.

The operation was carried out with eight cruise missiles and 17 drones, he said, adding that an American F-18 fighter jet was shot down as well, he added.

Saree also pledged to continue operations in defense of the Palestinian people and in respond to the attacks on the Gaza Strip and Yemen.

Iran slams Israel’s brazen admission of Haniyeh assassination

Iran”s permanent ambassador to the UN Amir Saeid Iravani commented on Tuesday in a letter addressed to the UN secretary-general and the president of the UN Security Council.

“This brazen admission marks the first time the Israeli regime has openly confessed to its responsibility for this heinous crime,” Iravani said, according to PressTV.

He said Israel’s confession underscores the international responsibility of the regime for its acts of terrorism and aggression.

“It also reaffirms the legitimacy and legality of Iran”s defensive response on 1 October 2024,” the Iranian diplomat said.

Iravani reiterated that the occupying and terrorist regime of Israel remains the most serious threat to regional and international peace and security.

He urged the UN Security Council to end the impunity of a regime that flagrantly defies international law and destabilizes the region.

The Iranian envoy also warned that continued silence of the Council would only embolden this terrorist regime to commit more atrocious crimes.

On Monday, Israel”s minister for military affairs Israel Katz admitted his regime was responsible for the killing, the first time an official admission had been made.

Katz also vowed that the Israeli regime would escalate its attacks against Yemen, including by staging assassinations.

Haniyeh was assassinated on July 31 after the regime carried out a targeted killing operation against the Iranian capital Tehran, to which he had travelled as an official guest to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

The regime assassinated Haniyeh’s successor, Yahya Sinwar, in another attack against the Gaza Strip in October, and staged a targeted killing strike against Beirut in September that resulted in the assassination of Hezbollah chief Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah.

Katz threatened that the regime would carry out the atrocities that he had mentioned in Yemen’s capital Sana’a and the western port city of al-Hudaydah.

Yemen’s Armed Forces have been conducting numerous pro-Palestinian strikes since October 7, 2023, when the Israeli regime began taking the Gaza Strip under a United States-backed genocidal war that has so far claimed the lives of more than 45,338 Palestinians, mostly women and children.

The strikes have been targeting the American military assets that are deployed off Yemen’s coastline, strategic and sensitive targets across the occupied Palestinian territories as well as the Israeli ships and the vessels heading towards the territories.

Israel expands aggression in SW Syria, seize local weapons

Lebanon’s al-Mayadeen television network said Israeli forces had fanned out across the provincial capital’s countryside.

The troops then ordered the locals and notable figures in the areas to surrender their arms.

Local sources recently were quoted as saying that the Israeli military had transferred more military hardware from Syria’s Tel Aviv-occupied Golan Heights to the province that is situated inside the occupied region.

According to locals, Israeli troops had invaded the town of Jubata al-Khashab in the province.

They said Israeli troops had occupied Quneitra’s provincial government offices, turning them into a military site and positioning themselves on the facilities’ rooftop.

Meanwhile, Israeli helicopter gunships and spy drones are reportedly flying across the province’s airspace as well as the Hawz Yarmouk District in the western part of the neighboring province of Dara’a.

Recently, it was reported that the Israeli military had occupied as much as 95 percent of Quneitra.

The developments take place amid markedly intensified Israeli aggression against Syria’s civilian and military infrastructures in the aftermath of the Arab country’s takeover by Western and Israeli-backed terrorist groups.

The regime had also ramped up its attacks against Syria in the run-up to the takeover in an apparent attempt at paving the way for the fall of the country’s government and the country’s invasion by terrorist groups.

This is while numerous regional and international states and organizations have emphasized preserving the country’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Israeli regime’s skies defenseless against Iran’s attacks

Major General Gholam-Ali Rashid, commander of the Islamic Republic’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, made the announcement on Wednesday, attending a meeting of top military brass from the Iranian Armed Forces, Press TV reported.

“The Islamic Republic’s Armed Forces will perform a set of powerful defensive and offensive maneuvers over the pending days and weeks,” he said.

According to Rashid, the Army and the IRGC consistently take part in the joint drills, especially throughout the second half of the Persian calendar year, across the country’s various terrains, its airspace, and waters.

The maneuvers, the commander noted, deploy defensive and offensive military hardware, and would take place “towards confronting the enemies of the Iranian nation.”

According to Press TV, every year, nearly 30 extensive military maneuvers go underway, which are directed and navigated by the Headquarters that ensures their optimal implementation, the official stated.

“Since implementation of the maneuvers translate into testing the Armed Forces in the face of threats, and they go underway with the aim of ensuring the country’s defensive and offensive preparedness to crush the enemy, the drills are devised rigorously and resourcefully and performed in a serious manner as a means of taking the enemy off guard.”

Elsewhere, Rashid said the Israeli regime had suffered from illusion and committed a miscalculation concerning the Islamic Republic, noting that the country’s powerful offensive operations against the regime, especially its Operation True Promise II, “simply displayed no more than a small fraction of the Armed Forces’ offensive capability.”

“The ballistic missiles that were fired [during the operation] struck military sites and pre-determined targets, proving to our commanders and the entire world that the occupied Palestinian territories’ skies are, contrary to the regime’s media propaganda, open and defenseless in the face of our attacks.”

The commander underlined that based on the Islamic Republic’s defensive doctrine, the country never acts as the initiator of any war in the region.

Therefore, the upcoming powerful drills are to take place in line with ensuring the country’s defensive and offensive readiness to confront whatever sort of threat, Rashid asserted.

Too early to predict Syria future: Iran FM

“It is premature to make judgments about Syria’s future at this stage; numerous factors will shape the country’s future, the future is highly uncertain,” Araghchi said.

The top Iranian diplomat noted that while some parties might claim to have achieved victories, the overall situation remains unpredictable, PressTV reported.

The terrorist group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) took over Syria and brought an end to Assad’s 24-year reign earlier this month.

Araghchi’s remarks came a day after Fatemeh Mohajerani, the Iranian government spokeswoman, stressed the importance of a Syrian government based on the popular vote of its citizens, describing it as a key concern for Iran.

Another critical concern, she noted, is preventing the rise and expansion of terrorism, as it significantly impacts both Syria and the entire region.

During a weekly press briefing in Tehran on Monday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei also emphasized the Islamic Republic’s unwavering commitment to preserve Syria’s national sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He asserted that the Syrian people hold the exclusive right to decide their fate free from foreign interference.

Terrorist groups, led by HTS, took control of Damascus on December 8 and declared an end to Assad’s rule in a surprise offensive that was launched from their stronghold in northwestern Syria, reaching the capital in less than two weeks.

The HTS terrorist group, supported by the US and its regional allies, has promised to form an inclusive government but the United Nations says the situation remains “fluid.”

Regional countries have urged Syrians to work to avert a spiral into chaos after the HTS stormed and captured the capital Damascus.

Syria’s stability and future are threatened by various factors, including Israel’s illegal occupation of the Syrian territory, driven by its expansionist policies, and the persistent presence of the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), which are backed by the US, in the country’s northeast.

Additional challenges stem from the perpetration of human rights violations against minority groups by HTS terrorists, as well as escalating humanitarian crises.
