Calls grow for restricting Germany activity in Hormuz Strait
A report published in the semi-official Fars news agency on Tuesday said Iran should impose economic penalties on Germany in response to Berlin’s growing anti-Iran rhetoric.
The report said Iran should increase its tariffs on imports of manufacturing and medical equipment from Germany, which generate significant revenues for the German government and businesses.
It said, however, that Iran can adopt more aggressive economic measures by imposing restrictions on the movement of ships sailing through the Strait of Hormuz that are registered or insured in Germany or those that carry cargoes to German ports.
“Adopting such measures would increase the costs of Germany’s hostile behaviors and reactions against the Iranian nation and would create an economic and political deterrence against other actors seeking to go down the same route,” read part of the report.
Iranian authorities have previously warned that the country would close the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf if it is threatened militarily by hostile powers.
However, restricting the movement of cargo ships has never been tried, nor has it been mentioned in warnings by senior Iranian officials.
In remarks made on June 17, just four days after Israel launched its war of aggression on Iran, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz praised what he described as the “dirty work Israel is doing for all of us”.

EU reluctance to suspend coop. with Israel unlawful betrayal
Agnes Callamard, the secretary general at Amnesty International, said that the European Union’s failure to suspend its cooperation agreement with the Israeli regime is a “cruel and unlawful betrayal” of the Palestinian nation, according to Amnesty International’s official website.
“The EU’s refusal to suspend its agreement with Israel is a cruel and unlawful betrayal of the European project and vision, predicated on upholding international law and fighting authoritarian practices, of the European Union’s own rules and of the human rights of Palestinians,” Callamard said.
She further pointed out the union’s collusion in Israeli crimes against Palestinians, saying, “The E.U.’s own review has clearly found that Israel is violating its human rights obligations under the terms of the Association Agreement. Yet, instead of taking measures to stop it and prevent their own complicity, member states chose to maintain a preferential trade deal over respecting their international obligations and saving Palestinian lives.”
On Tuesday, the foreign ministers of the European Union met in Brussels to discuss suspending collaboration with the regime and imposing sanctions; however, the proposed measures, including suspending the trade agreement, arms embargo, or restrictions on visa issuance, were dismissed.
The secretary general also said, “European leaders had the opportunity to take a principled stand against Israel’s crimes, but instead gave it a green light to continue its genocide in Gaza, its unlawful occupation of the whole Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), and its system of apartheid against Palestinians.”
The European Union’s cooperation agreement with the Israeli regime has been in force since 2000. This agreement forms the main framework for political, economic, and cultural cooperation between the two sides.
It is worth mentioning that despite the union’s recent decision to continue cooperation with the Israeli regime, several European states, including Ireland, Spain, Belgium, and Slovenia, have called for the suspension or immediate review of this agreement over the past months.

Iran lambasts Zionist regime’s ongoing crimes in Gaza
Baghaei denounced the intensified atrocities by the Zionist regime against the Palestinian people and the killing of over 100 innocent Palestinians in the past 24 hours, including the cowardly assassination of Mohammad Faraj al-Ghoul, a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council, and Alaa Azzam, a renowned Palestinian Qur’an reciter, along with his family.
The spokesperson described the continued blockade of food and medicine in Gaza, the imposition of hunger and thirst on its residents, and the simultaneous bombing of tents and gathering points for displaced persons as a brutal war crime that serves the goal of completing a colonial genocide plan against Palestinians.
Baghaei condemned the deceptive and theatrical actions of the United States and the Zionist regime in establishing so-called humanitarian aid distribution centers and turning these sites into traps for massacring innocent, hungry, and thirsty women and children.
He stressed the moral and legal responsibility of all governments and international organizations, especially those tasked with protecting human rights and humanitarian law, to take immediate action to stop these crimes.
Baghaei pointed out that the imposed inaction and indifference by the supporters and justifiers of the Zionist regime’s crimes in Gaza have led to the normalization of the most severe violations of international law and the weakening of shared legal and ethical foundations among nations.
He also held the direct supporters of the Zionist regime, especially the US, Germany, and the UK, responsible for the killings and acts of genocide in Gaza and the West Bank.
He warned that the continued impunity of the occupying regime in the face of its flagrant violations and heinous crimes in the occupied territories is a key factor in the ongoing violence and warfare.
Baghaei called for serious action by regional and Islamic countries to halt the genocide in occupied Palestine.
