Iran”s defense chief calls Israel symbol of state terrorism

Speaking during a meeting in Tehran on Monday with his Zimbabwean counterpart, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, the Iranian minister praised Zimbabwe for its historic struggle against colonialism, racism, and apartheid, noting that Zimbabwe”s efforts in these areas have earned it a distinguished place in both Africa and the broader international community.

Highlighting Africa’s special position in Iran’s foreign policy, the Defense Minister said that this fact stems from the nature of the Islamic Revolution, which has been based on supporting independent states and the struggles by the African nations to get rid of the dominance of the hegemonic powers.

The Zimbabwean minister, for her part, extended condolences over a tragic explosion in Shahid Rajaee Port in southern Iran.

She stressed that relations between Iran and Zimbabwe entered a new chapter after the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

Any deal with Iran must allow IAEA supervision

Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, emphasized that any future agreement with Iran must include provisions for the agency to monitor and verify compliance. Grossi underlined that without such oversight, the credibility of any deal would be severely undermined.

According to Al Jazeera, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi stated that any agreement involving Iran should ensure the Agency’s capacity to verify compliance with its terms.

Grossi stressed that an agreement without verification mechanisms would lack credibility.

His remarks came after a delegation from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) held talks in Iran with Iranian nuclear officials on Monday, with the two sides agreeing to continue negotiations on technical and safeguards issues.

The Monday visit of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) delegation headed by Massimo Aparo, Head of the Department of Safeguards, had been agreed upon during the recent visit of the IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi to Tehran.

Aparo met today with a delegation from the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), headed by Behrouz Kamalvandi, AEOI Deputy Director for International, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, on Monday.

During these talks, issues of mutual interest, especially technical and safeguards issues, were discussed and views were exchanged upon. The parties reviewed all issues between them, including the remaining safeguards issues, and reached an agreement on the method of pursuing the issues, as well as continuing the talks and implementing the understandings that had been achieved.

Iran mulls buying oil from Azerbaijan amid warming ties

The Monday report by Fars news agency said that Iran can import up to 110,000 barrels per day (bpd) of crude oil from Azerbaijan and process it in a large refinery in Tabriz, the capital of Iran’s East Azarbaijan province.

“This can help reduce the costs of transporting oil from southern Iran to Tabriz refinery, which amount to tens of millions of dollars per year,” said the report.

It said the purchase can help Iran replace the Israeli regime as a major customer of Azerbaijani oil, adding that the regime is currently responsible for nearly 20% of Azerbaijan’s total oil exports.

The report said that Iran”s oil imports from Azerbaijan can seriously elevate the level of economic relations between the two countries.

The report came as Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian was in the Azerbaijani capital, Baku, for a state visit that many experts have described as a sign of warming relations between the two neighbors.

Pezeshkian and his Azerbaijani counterpart, Ilham Aliyev, and their accompanying delegations signed seven cooperation documents on Monday, including a major agreement to strengthen transportation cooperation between the two countries.

The report by Fars said that the completion of a transport corridor that passes through Iran and connects Azerbaijan to its exclave of Nakhchivan would also help boost relations between Tehran and Baku.

It said the Aras railway corridor would replace the so-called Zangezur corridor, which Azerbaijan was once seeking to establish through the Armenian territory, adding that the route will also increase transport options on the International North–South Transport Corridor, which connects several regional countries through Iran and Azerbaijan.

Kremlin aide calls for reforming UN

The United Nations needs to be reformed to be adjusted to the changed world order, Russian presidential aide and Marine Board Chairman Nikolay Patrushev told TASS.

“The West categorically refuses to acknowledge that despite their scenarios, the world is changing. The unipolar West-centric world is ending. Multipolarity is taking its place,” he said.

“We believe that a reform of the United Nations is a logical consequence of the process of the formation of a new order. The UN Security Council may be changed based on the interests of the entire world community.”

According to Patrushev, countries of the global majority, which have been ignored by the West for decades, are now actually forming the economic and political agenda. The popularity of BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) is growing, he added.

Netanyahu”s rhetoric aimed at influencing Iran-US talks

Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, made the remarks on Tuesday morning, reacting to Israeli prime minister Netanyahu”s recent anti-Iran rhetoric, who threatened to destroy Iran’s nuclear facilities.

“Netanyahu”s remarks were aimed at influencing ongoing indirect talks,” Ghalibaf emphasized, adding that Tehran does not take his threats seriously.

He further added that Israel would not take any action without the explicit consent of the United States.

The Iranian official also warned that any military action against Iran would have catastrophic consequences for the entire region.

On Monday, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman, Esmaeil Baghai, said it was unsurprising that Israeli officials would attempt to divert attention from the ongoing genocide in Gaza by making such claims.

The senior Iranian diplomat pointed out that Tel Aviv is well aware that any adventurous move or miscalculation against Iran will result in a swift and decisive response.

He further criticized Western nations, particularly those who continue to support the Israeli regime, for playing a role in exacerbating threats to global peace and security. Baghaei emphasized that such actions would only contribute to international instability.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said that Israel’s fantasy that it can dictate what Iran may or may not do is so detached from reality that it hardly merits a response.

“There is no military option, and certainly no military solution. Any strike will be immediately reciprocated,” he stressed.
