Recalling his earlier statement that “this decade would be the decade of Uttarakhand,” Modi emphasized that new avenues for the state’s progress are opening up, fulfilling the aspirations that led to its formation. He congratulated the Uttarakhand government for its innovative efforts in promoting winter tourism, aiding in harnessing the state’s economic potential.
Promoting Year-Round Tourism
Modi stressed the importance of diversifying and making tourism a year-round activity in Uttarakhand, stating there should be no “off-season.” He observed that currently, tourism peaks between March and June, with a significant drop afterward, leading to economic stagnation and environmental challenges. He highlighted that winter tourism offers unique experiences like trekking and skiing, and holds special significance for religious journeys, with many sacred sites hosting unique rituals during this time. He pointed out that the Uttarakhand government’s vision for year-round tourism will provide people with opportunities to connect with divine experiences and create year-round employment opportunities, significantly benefiting the local population and youth.
